The idea that Utah is considering cutting grade 12 from their education system to save money is certaintly interesting but not so much in a good way.
Cutting grade 12 means pushing sixteen-year-olds out of high school and in the work force or post-secondary institutions at a very early age. With students already taking time off after high school to prepare for the next step, one has to wonder why are we pushing them harder?
The budget.
This is in interesting reason. While cutting spending to save money may be a good idea, and a proven one in some cases, eliminating education simply means the up-and-coming gernerations will be less prepared for the work force, and less equipped to handle another recession when it strikes.
Cut spending, yes, but find another place. Hurting the future generations is never the answer and will only end up hurting us all in the coming years.
