There’s a foundation called Terra Sativa that is working with the local Colombian people in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in a small town called Minca.  They are currently rebuilding two plantations and teaching the locals how to grow organic produce such as Coffee Beans, Avacados, Mangos, etc and how to run their own business for the future in an environmentally friendly way. They have taken on a tremendous task and are always looking for support.

If you use facebook you can view photos and watch the progress they have made. The photos depict the story from the beginning and are captioned in both Spanish and English. In addition to our discussion in BUSN-210 on Wed., I wanted to reiterate how important it is to volunteer and the reasons why:

Employers are much more interested in well-rounded personalities. They view volunteering as a form of social responsibility. When we volunteer it does mean we give our time for “free” but there are more rewards than money. This shows the employer you are a committed, responsible and give back to your community.

Anyone wanting to volunteer a few hours a week or more can easily do that by volunteering at your local YMCA, the nearest food bank or youth or even local community centers.
